Maria Rosa Jijon is an Ecuadorian artist and activist, working with photo, time –based ,media, sound and public interventions. She did her studies in Ecuador, Cuba and Sweden. Lives in Rome, Italy since year 2000

 

Jijon’s work deals with the idea of being a foreigner and with human mobility in migratory contexts, hence it is based on mutual exchange and collaboration with grassroots groups and local migrant and human rights organizations. Active member of Rete G2, Second Generation Migrants in Italy. She has attended various workshops on social and urban interventions with Michelangelo Pistoletto’s Cittadellarte Foundation, and is presently co-curator at CEROINSPIRACION arte+residencias, an artist-run space in Quito. Jijon has also taken part in a series of filmmaking projects regarding foreign communities in Italy, Roma children, and the UN Women Campaign, Women's Letters (cartas de mujeres), against gender violence.

 

Member of the research team of FLACSO (Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales _ Ecuador) on youth street organizations were she has coordinated video and documentary production.
